Today we're excited to share that PANTOMIM P.S.A. — the company behind Animatica — has received funding from the European Union to support the development of our AI-powered character animation technology. The grant backs our project, "Automating the inbetweening of 3D animation using deep-learning models," whose goal is to give artists a tool for creating character animation faster.

This grant is a significant milestone for us. It validates the technical direction we've been pursuing — building generative models that give animators real creative control over AI-generated motion — and provides the resources to accelerate our roadmap.

As part of the project, we are:

  • Researching a new motion model — advancing the generative architecture that powers our motion synthesis, with a focus on physical plausibility and directability.
  • Building a new motion dataset — assembling the high-quality movement data the model learns from.
  • Studying how artists work with AI models — researching artist–AI interaction so the tool fits the way animators actually work.

The people who benefit from this work are artists, animators, and 3D creators. The outcomes we're aiming for are a clear increase in artists' productivity and a rise in the quality of 3D production.

The European Union has been increasingly focused on supporting AI companies that develop technology with real-world applications and responsible practices. We're proud to be part of that ecosystem, and we take the responsibility seriously.

For our users and partners, this means faster progress. We'll be able to invest more deeply in model quality, expand our compute resources, and move more quickly toward the product we've been building toward.

For potential team members, this is a good time to join. We're hiring for both ML Engineering and ML Research roles, and this funding gives us the runway to build the team we need. If you're interested, take a look at our careers page.

We're grateful to the EU for this support, and to everyone who has believed in what we're building. More updates soon.

The total value of the project is 2,036,630.27 PLN, with 1,299,916.21 PLN provided through European Union funding.
